Ganked from everybody:

I was thinking you should tell me about stories you think I should write. I mean, if you could sit me down for a day or whatever and say, "I want you to write this story for me," what would that story be?

I'm not actually promising to *write* any of these, mind you, but it's fun anyway. And who knows if I'll be inspired!

I have multiple original stories and a fic on the burner. So, I almost certainly won't write anything suggested, but it'd be fun to see what folks want!

Hmm, you're a fan of the "build shit, make it happen" genre. First you read Homestuck, then you tell me how the Trolls rebuild their fucked up society, plus or minus a whole new universe. (dreadfully quick summary of ~20 of text, images and flash video: there is a game that destroys worlds. Winning it means you get to build the next one. The first characters you meet are human players, but later there are aliens. The aliens have reproductive and social needs for the presence of romantic and platonic hate as well as analogs to human romantic and platonic love: http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=6&p=004293 )

First you read Homestuck,
This is a very funny joke you have here ;)

Hey, he said he wouldn't actually write it whatever I said; besides, it's good original sci-fi, and I think he might like the time-loop plots and aliens.

Hey, that comic thing has eaten my brain pretty thoroughly! But.

Step One: Read Homestuck
It is still a hell of a footnote.

(Although I would note, Homestuck is also a very good answer to the question, "What is fandom doing lately?" It's a very different scene than fic-centered journal-based fandom.)

There's still a lot of ship-fic, though -- I'm not sure I'd rec the fandom to Hradzka, though I do rec the central work.

Though, now that you've made me think for a minute: I know that Hussie collaborates with fans for his album art, his music releases, and and I think some of the flash video, right? So that would be a very new and unusual fan thing -- the fan-creator being publicly recruited by the original's author, making ongoing contributions without ever becoming an acknowledged author.

Haha I always feel bad reccing the central work itself. If someone happens to trip and fall into the archives I will pat them consolingly on the shoulder and offer fic recs but... Yeah.

And I don't know if the fandom is "good" by any useful metre, but it is huge, sprawling, young skewing, and has different cultural norms, values and output patterns... (though still a lot of shipfic, even if the dude to ladyslash ratio isn't quite so relatively large as most) If you're trying to predict the future of fandom, it's probably a hint.

Hmm. Well, if there are any other works that take a week of reading to get current on, that have Homestuck's order of fascinating/weird/meticulously crafted plot stuff, lay them on me, I don't need sleep that badly.

See, and that sounds *equally* like gifting someone a finger trap. Although at least you are asking for such a thing ;)

(And sorry, none spring to mind offhand.)

Oh man. I want you to write dark comedy Oracle has to save the day using only Booster, Beetle and Cass Cain as operatives. Everything spins out of control in horrible but funny ways as only you can write it while still maintaining everyone's actual super-high level of competency.

Your Oracle and Cassandra Cain is a thing of beauty, and perfect to unleash on dark comedy, particularly since super super dark comedy seems to be how they both view the world at times. Your writing skill set is perfect for getting the balance just right (many fail at this) between actually pretty good at what they do, but imp of the perverse + sense of humor = save the day but can't win for losing, but happy anyway because their lives are pretty good and they have each other and saving the world of Blue and Gold. Your love of making and building stuff and being creative story is perfect for Oracle and Blue Beetle geeking out and Cassandra and Booster's (very different from each other but still prominent) tendency toward eccentric and unpredictable lateral thinking. Plus Cassandra reading 31st? (51st? whatever) century bodylanguage would be amazing.

In the end handwave handwave just as they were really heroic and Saved Us All something would happen and the other superheroes and the general public would think it was Superman or Lex Luthor or the Gotham PD or the military that saved the day.

But then, of course, because Oracle is not nearly as cruel as the court of public opinion, her operatives would be rewarded with a nice bonus and a bowl of ice cream each at the end of the mission even if the world would never know exactly what really happened.

I am curious what Justified fanfic by you would look like, but for that to happen I'd imagine you'd have to 1) watch Justified and 2) like Justified, and I have no reason to believe either of those has occurred, so.

I look forward to your thoughts if you ever do watch it. I imagine it's about as close to a Western as you're going to get on current TV.

YOU NEED A BOOK

A POEM EVERY DAY

The collected poems from my descent into madness year spent writing daily poems are now available from Lulu as the cheapest 330-page book they would let me make ($16.20). If that's too pricey, you can also get it from Lulu as a free download, or just click on the "a poem every day" tag to read them here. But if you did buy one, that'd be awesome.
