Andrew Ferguson's latest column makes mention of an anecdote I'd never heard and found extraordinarily touching:

Though he's disdained Yale since his graduation in 1968, George W. Bush agreed to host a 35th class reunion.

One classmate, Petra Leilani Akwai, had undergone a sex change since graduation . . . Akwai greeted the president in the receiving line.

"You might remember me as Peter when we left Yale," she said.

"And now you've come back as yourself," Bush said.

Andrew Ferguson's column was incredibly fun to read. I only wish it were longer.

I did a search on vvalkyri and dreamwidth and amusingly did not get my dw but did get my response here. 12 years later I had no memory of this, but still think it perfect. sadly, the original column is no longer on line.

I miss your long form writing. I suppose I should get on twitter, but fb's bad enough for me.

YOU NEED A BOOK

A POEM EVERY DAY

The collected poems from my descent into madness year spent writing daily poems are now available from Lulu as the cheapest 330-page book they would let me make ($16.20). If that's too pricey, you can also get it from Lulu as a free download, or just click on the "a poem every day" tag to read them here. But if you did buy one, that'd be awesome.
