Bad news.

The landlord rented the apartment out from under Jack and Te.

This means they're starting the apartment search all over again, so we're not going to be building a ramp for the foreseeable future. As you can imagine, this is pretty much the worst-case scenario for the fundraiser, especially after such a great success. We thought about the options, and took a look at the situation as it stands. Under the circumstances, the only ethical thing to do is to issue refunds to everyone.

You may recall that Amazon's Honor System had some pretty thorny technical problems during the drive (or, as we refer to it, "that time your generosity broke Amazon"). Those problems are still there. I've spent a lot of time on the phone with the folks at Amazon, trying a number of solutions, but things are sufficiently broken that the good folks at Amazon will have to issue the refunds from within their system. You do not have to do anything to get your refund; Amazon is on that.

As you can imagine, the glitches also prevent me from monitoring the processing of the refunds, so I will ask you to help me out there. If you donated, please watch out for the refund; if you haven't received it by the end of the week, please email me. (My email address is my LJ username at gmail.)

I'm adding a link to this information to the ramp drive post. If you've posted about the ramp drive somewhere, please post a link to this post, as well, so all the donors know what to expect.

Again, thank you for your generosity, and I'm sorry things didn't work out better.

ETA, November 26: The ramp project is on hold for an indefinite period. Refunds are being issued. Details here.

ETA, November 21: OMG YOU GUYS WE DID IT. Fundraiser over, officially a success! See below for the timeline.

Original post begins here: You all know Jack ([livejournal.com profile] buggery) and Te ([livejournal.com profile] thete1), right? Okay, they've been offline for a while, but if you're familiar with DCU fandom online you know who they are, and even if you're not, if you've been reading fanfic for a while odds are you know who Te is.

They're moving into a new apartment. Or, at least, they're trying to. The new place is great, perfect for their needs, and amenable to their gummint benefits. But here's the catch: it's not wheelchair accessible. Yet.

Let's help with that. )

WE DID IT.

And by "we," I mean YOU.

We have MET and EXCEEDED the goal. The Amazon account is standing at $3,154, and Betty got 89.11 through Paypal, from folks who didn't have credit cards, for a total of $3,243.11. Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who donated, everyone who pimped the fundraiser, everyone who cheered us on. I just broke the news to Te, who is overwhelmed. Look for her voice post tomorrow; I'll link it.

Te and Jack will have a ramp. I'm officially calling the fundraiser over; we'll let you know how things go, and hope to have the ramp built as soon as humanly possible. I'll be posting the receipts from the contractor, and any overages will go to charity to help disabled folks deal with situations like this.

Thank you. All of you.

Your latest ramp drive update: as I note in the main ramp drive post, I am officially calling for a pause for now. I've talked with the guys at Amazon again; they confirmed they're having substantial technical issues, and right now those issues are preventing them from processing payments or even determining how many payments are awaiting processing for a given account. And the figures Amazon's system is coughing up when I try to look are wrong, so I can't depend on them. This means I only have a very vague idea of how amazingly generous everyone has been.

So, let's take a breather for now, and wait to see what happens when Amazon gets its act together. Thanks for your generosity and your patience. Once I know what's actually happening, we can resume the drive.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

YOUR GENEROSITY HAS BROKEN AMAZON. ...no, not exactly, but right now there is a major lag in our updates for our donation collection, as you may have noticed. It was updating just fine this morning and early afternoon, but hasn't budged in some time. Amazon's tech support is on the case, but right now I can't actually say with any certainty how much we've collected, just that it's a good bit more than the eighteen hundred the tracker shows right now.

Because of the nature of this fundraising, and the desire to avoid major foot-in-mouth, I don't want to say anything definite until I actually know. This could be a hold-up on the credit card processing end, but we don't appear to have been credited for several transactions that *have* gone through. So I will keep nagging them, and hopefully we'll have this sorted out in short order.

In the meantime -- let me just say that my icon is right: my fandom has nasty, big, pointy teeth -- and I am immensely pround and happy to be among you.

Blogging for a cause! Throw me something. Anything. A prompt, a pairing, a character name, a scenario, a fandom, and I'll write you a ficlet, *even if I know nothing about the fandom and have to make something up based on what I find in a quick search of Wikipedia and Google.*

You don't have to donate to Jack and Te's Wheelchair Ramp Fund for a ficlet -- but please take a look.

YOU NEED A BOOK

A POEM EVERY DAY

The collected poems from my descent into madness year spent writing daily poems are now available from Lulu as the cheapest 330-page book they would let me make ($16.20). If that's too pricey, you can also get it from Lulu as a free download, or just click on the "a poem every day" tag to read them here. But if you did buy one, that'd be awesome.
